Volleyball to Play Tennessee on Thursday in Memorial

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After winning its second-consecutive Southeastern Conference Championship and going through the league schedule undefeated, the Kentucky volleyball team will wrap up its final spring exhibition contest on Thursday in preparation for the 2019 season. Kentucky will welcome SEC-foe Tennessee to Memorial Coliseum at 6:30 p.m. ET.
 
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
 
As a team, Kentucky finished the year 27-5 and won the SEC Championship for the second season in a row in 2018. It marked the first time since 1987-88 the Wildcats won the championship in successive seasons. Kentucky advanced to the NCAA Regional Semifinals for the fifth time under Skinner and the Wildcats put together a 23-match winning streak, the second longest in program history.
 
Kentucky’s returners in 2019 include Leah Edmond and Madison Lilley who were named AVCA All-America second team honorees. Edmond was the SEC’s Player of the Year, while Lilley was the AVCA Southeast Region Player of the Year. Gabby Curry was named the SEC Libero of the Year, marking UK’s eighth win in the last nine seasons and freshman Alli Stumler was tabbed the Freshman of the Year. Kentucky has won each of the last three SEC Freshman of the Year honors. Skinner was named the SEC Coach of the Year for the third time during his tenure.
 
Thursday’s match marks the conclusion of a four-week spring exhibition slate for the Wildcats. Kentucky will return to regular-season action in late August. The fall schedule has yet to be announced with details to follow in the coming weeks.
