No. 23 Kentucky Heads West for “Battle of the Bluegrass”
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 23 Kentucky softball team will make the short trip west on Wednesday afternoon to compete in the annual “Battle of the Bluegrass” against the (RV) Louisville Cardinals.
The game will start at 6 p.m. ET from Ulmer Stadium in the Derby City and will be shown live on the ACC Network Extra. Live stats will be available on the Louisville Athletics website, GoCards.com.
Kentucky and Louisville will be meeting for the 40th time in the program’s history, with UK holding the 20-19 lead in the series. The Wildcats have won each of the last three meetings between the two teams, with UK also winning the last four games at Ulmer Stadium dating back to 2013.
UK and UL are meeting for the first time with the Cards under Holly Aprile. Aprile and Rachel Lawson were teammates in college at UMass, and played in the Women’s College World Series together. Additionally, both Louisville assistant coaches Griffin Joiner (Kentucky, 2012-15 / GA 2016-17) and Ashley Lane (Vol. Asst. Coach, 2015) have served on Rachel Lawson’s staff in the past.
Kentucky is coming off of getting its first top-10 win of the season at No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge over the weekend in a 3-2 result Friday night. Grace Baalman earned the win in the circle and Autumn Humes got the save in the Wildcats biggest win of the season thus far.
