Marsh Set to Start as Cats Travel to Lipscomb on Wednesday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky baseball team will step out of Southeastern Conference play on Wednesday evening as it faces Lipscomb in Nashville on the way to its weekend series at No. 10 Ole Miss that begins Friday night. First pitch for Wednesday’s game against the Bisons is set for 7 p.m. ET at Dugan Field and the game will be streamed on Watch ESPN.
The Wildcats (17-15) are in the midst of an eight-game road trip and month of April during which they play 12 of 16 games away from Kentucky Proud Park. Over the weekend, UK scored a Friday night victory at Missouri but lost in walk-off fashion on Saturday and fell short of winning a SEC road series with a Sunday defeat.
Despite the struggles in conference play this season with an inexperienced club, UK has been excellent during coach Nick Mingione’s tenure against opponents from outside the traditional Power Five conferences, going 50-5 in his three seasons. In 2019, UK is 15-0 against such foes to extend its winning streak in those games to 20.
Freshman left-hander Dillon Marsh is expected to get the start on the mound for the Cats. He has posted a 2-1 record with a 6.75 earned run average in eight starts, seven of which have come as part of the weekend rotation.
