UK Women’s Tennis Honors Mikulskyte on Sunday for Senior Day

by Cami Moore

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team (16-5, Southeastern Conference 6-4) will conclude its regular-season home slate on Sunday, hosting Mississippi State at 1 p.m. for Senior Day at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The Wildcats will celebrate the program’s lone senior, Justina Mikulskyte, at 12:50 p.m.

Free parking is available in any of the three E-lots adjacent to the tennis courts on UK’s campus one hour prior to the start of the dual match. Parking structure No. 7 is also a free option for spectators. Free t-shirt, posters and pizza will be available at the marketing table near the entrance of the facility.

Senior Mikulskyte is the only roster member ranked in both the ITA/Oracle Singles and Doubles National Rankings, boasting top-20 placements in each poll. UK’s consistent No. 1 player in singles and in doubles, she is the 16th-best singles player in the nation, and paired with redshirt-junior Akvile Paražinskaite, the duo makeup the 18th-best doubles team in the nation.

On Friday, Mikulskyte stood up to pressure when she rallied from behind to force a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-3 outcome over Ole Miss’ Sabina Machalova in the final singles match to decide the winning team. It improved her season record to 12-4 (.75). Remarkable about Mikulskyte’s record is her mark against nationally-ranked opponents. In singles, she has formed a 6-2 mark over ranked foes. Paired with Paražinskaite, the upperclassmen duo is 6-0 against ranked foes. Mikulskyte and Paražinskaite boast a 6-2 mark in doubles conference play, having upset the No. 1 and the No. 3 doubles teams in the nation in March.

For just the second time this season, Kentucky moved out of the ITA/Oracle Top 25 on Tuesday, but only to fall to the 26th post. Mississippi State is 12-10, reporting a 3-7 mark in the conference. UK holds the all-time winning notch over the Bulldogs, 36-6.

The dual match will mark the Wildcats last regular-season home match. The team has put together a compelling record at home this season, forming an 11-2 mark at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. Live scoring will be available at UKathletics.com.
