Kentucky Hosts No. 13 Texas A&M In First SEC Home Series

by UK Athletics Communications and PR

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off its highest scoring effort of the season the Kentucky baseball team welcomes No. 13 Texas A&M to town this weekend for the first Southeastern Conference series in Kentucky Proud Park.

Friday’s series opener will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET with Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be available on SEC Network Plus and WatchESPN, with radio via the Kentucky Sports Network.

The Cats (14-7, 0-3 SEC) blasted Xavier 16-3 on Tuesday night and have scored 31 runs in their past two home games as they received production from up and down the lineup. At LSU last weekend, the Cats dropped a gut-wrenching 2-1 game in 12 innings in the opener and saw their inexperience show itself in the final two games of the series. Entering the season the position players on UK’s roster had started a grand total of 63 SEC games, fewer than LSU outfielder Antoine Duplantis by himself.

Texas A&M (18-5, 2-1) had an impressive opening weekend in SEC play, taking two of three games from top-ranked Vanderbilt in College Station. The Aggies have a deep and talented pitching staff that currently ranks 10th nationally in earned run average (2.56) and fifth nationally with four shutouts through 23 games. The offense hasn’t put up gaudy numbers as of yet but has the pieces to break out at any moment.

Kentucky Proud Park has been good to the Cats thus far, with the club winning 11 of its first 12 games in the new facility. Twice the Cats won in walk-off style and claimed another win with an eighth-inning rally as they settle into their new digs.

The weekend will be full of promotions for fans as well, including Bark in the Park on Saturday afternoon where fans can bring their dogs out for the game. On Friday, a UK pennant will be given away and kids can run the bases after the game. In addition to Bark in the Park on Saturday, kids can play catch in the outfield after the game and on Sunday the first of five sets of trading cards will be given away and the team will be available for autographs after the contest.

Tickets for home games can be purchased at UKBaseballTix.com and complete game-day information can be found at UKathletics.com/gameday. Fans are also encouraged to share their experiences and ask questions by emailing BBNfirst@uky.edu.
