Registration for 2018 John Calipari Draft Academy Open

by Eric Lindsey

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s basketball’s young fan base will have another chance to see UK’s 2018 NBA Draft class in person during this year’s 2018 John Calipari Draft Academy, which will be held Aug. 1 and 2 at the Seaton Center and Johnson Center on the University of Kentucky campus. Scholarship opportunities for children of non-salary University of Kentucky employees to attend the camp are available.

Hamidou Diallo, Wenyen Gabriel, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kevin Knox and Jarred Vanderbilt will be this year’s featured pros and will be in attendance for each session on one of the two dates. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from the newly minted professionals as they begin their NBA careers.

Players available are subject to change. Other pros may be added at a later date.

New to the camp this year, scholarship opportunities are available for children of non-salary University of Kentucky employees. All participants can register here and at UKathletics.com/camps. UK staff employees registering will be required to enter their staff identification number to validate the scholarship.

“I’m excited to be able to offer this camp to our UK family,” Calipari said. “This is a great opportunity for some of the folks that make this campus what it is to provide something special for their children before school starts back up. If you’re a UK employee considering signing your child up, we ask that you please honor the commitment because other children could use this scholarship. There are a limited number we can offer and they will come on a first-come, first-served basis. No-shows will not to be eligible for future scholarships.”

This summer’s John Calipari Draft Academy, formerly known as the John Calipari Pro Camp, will be split into two separate sessions, all of which will be held at the Seaton Center (1210 University Ave.) and Johnson Center (434 Complex Dr.). The sessions will be divided into morning and afternoon groups with varying pros from Kentucky’s 2018 NBA Draft class in attendance.

The cost for the Calipari Draft Academy is $199 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt, instruction, competitions, autograph session and camp team photo with the featured Wildcat pros. The camp is open to both boys and girls ages 7-17.

A limited number of spots are available for all camps and are based on a first-come, first-served basis, with online registration recommended as the fastest and most efficient form of registering campers.
