Kentucky Swimming and Diving Announces 2018-19 Schedule
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky swimming and diving program will once again face a slew of tough opponents in the upcoming year, as sixth-year head coach Lars Jorgensen announced the 2018-19 schedule Monday afternoon.
“We’re really excited about the upcoming year,” said Kentucky head coach Lars Jorgensen. “With the goal of continuing to improve on a national level, it’s a very competitive schedule that will prepare us well for the NCAA Championships in March. We have some of our traditional opponents, but we also have some new meets like heading to Florida in January.”
To prep for the grueling postseason, UK will face off against a combined nine men’s and women’s teams that placed within the top 25 at last year’s NCAA Championships, as well as five that placed inside the top 10 throughout the dual season.
“Each year, we want to compete against some of the best teams out there,” said Jorgensen. “It’s going to be a demanding schedule, but ultimately will help us prepare well for the postseason.”
Per tradition, Kentucky will once again open the season with their annual Blue-White Intrasquad on Friday, Oct. 5. The friendly scrimmage offers a first opportunity for fans to see the Wildcats in a competition setting.
A pair of tough teams await the Wildcats in their first dual meet of the season, as Kentucky will travel to Bloomington, Ind., on Oct. 10 to take on Indiana and Notre Dame. Both teams’ men’s and women’s squads finished inside the top 20 of the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 a season ago.
Following its season-opening road dual, Kentucky will return home to take on SEC foe LSU on Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. inside the Lancaster Aquatic Center. From there, Kentucky will once again hit the road to wrap up the 2018 dual meets in Columbia, Mo. The two-day meet with the Tigers will run Nov. 1-2.
Kentucky will head to Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 15-17 for its annual mid-season taper with opponents still to be determined.
To cap off 2018, select individuals will compete at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals from Nov. 28-30 in Greensboro, N.C.
On the other side of the new year, the Wildcats will head to the Sunshine State Jan. 4-5 for a tri meet with Florida and Ohio State in Gainesville, Fla.
UK will wrap up its home slate with the annual Battle of the Bluegrass, welcoming Louisville for Senior Day on Jan. 26.
Postseason competition kicks off at the SEC Championships, hosted by Georgia from Feb. 19-23. This year’s NCAA Championships will be held in Austin, Texas, with the women’s meet running first from March 20-23 in Austin, Texas, before the men’s competition the following weekend from March 27-30.
