Gus Benson Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Gus Benson of the Kentucky Men’s Tennis team has been named a first team Academic All-District Men’s At-Large nominee, the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday afternoon.
 
Benson graduated from UK with a degree in Human Nutrition and a 3.96 GPA in his undergraduate career. He will enter pharmacy school at UK in the fall. At Kentucky’s 16th annual CATSPY Awards, Benson was awarded the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
 
On the court, Benson is part of Kentucky’s No. 1 doubles duos with Cesar Bourgois. Benson and Bourgois are up to No. 13 in the latest Oracle ITA rankings with 27.04 points. The duo has 10 wins this season, with five of those coming over ranked opponents. Benson has accumulated 15 wins overall in the spring doubles season with all partners. Benson also racked up seven singles wins this year, including two in dual matches.
 
Benson and Bourgois will compete in the NCAA Doubles Tournament which will take place beginning on May 23. Ryo Matsumura and Will Bushamuka will compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament.
 
The Kentucky men’s tennis team was eliminated from the NCAA team Tournament in the second round after defeating No. 35 Virginia Tech, 4-0 and then losing to No. 3 Ohio State, 4-0.
