by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After two run-rule wins in the midweek over Eastern Kentucky (10-0) and Louisville (8-0), the No. 20 Kentucky softball team will now set its sights on the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders for a two-game series at John Cropp Stadium on Friday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

Both games of the doubleheader will be aired live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app with Dave Baker (pxp) and former Kentucky pitcher Meagan Prince (color) on the call from JCS in Lexington.

Kentucky has scored 18 runs in the last 11 innings of play, which led to two run-rule wins over the two in-state foes. The Wildcats have six run-rule wins this season, already eclipsing the five from a season ago. UK has been dynamite hitting with runners in scoring position this season, and that has been no different the last two weeks, hitting over .400 and driving in over 30 runs the last two weeks.

Middle Tennessee enters the weekend with a 23-15 overall record and is .500 at 6-6 in Conference USA play. The Blue Raiders are coming off of a 4-1 loss to UT-Martin in Wednesday’s midweek action. MTSU has played Maryland, Rutgers and UCLA from the Power 5 schools, losing all three of those games.

Offensively, MTSU is paced by Summer Burgess who is hitting .409 on the season with 52 base hits and 13 RBI. Lexi Cushing is batting .356 with a team-leading eight home runs and 30 RBI.

In the circle, Cori Jennings is 12-6 in her 1-2 innings pitched with a 1.92 ERA so far this season. Jennings 68 strikeouts with an opposing batting average of just over .200. Also pitching a lot of innings for MTSU is Amber Baldwin, who is 8-4 this season with a 1.90 ERA in over 80 innings of work in the circle.
