No. 20 Kentucky to Face No. 9 Georgia, No. 37 Tennessee This Weekend
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After playing its last four matches on the road in what again proves to be a challenging Southeastern Conference schedule, the No. 20 Kentucky women’s tennis team will return to the friendly confines of the Boone Tennis Complex this weekend to face No. 9 Georgia and No. 37 Tennessee.
Friday’s matchup with the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. ET, while Sunday’s bout vs. the Volunteers will begin at noon.
Kentucky (11-5, 3-3 SEC) currently sits sixth in the conference team standings as it heads into the back half of its SEC slate. Despite dropping their last two matches, Mami Adachi continued her streak by winning her 10th straight singles match at Ole Miss last week. She owns an impressive 12-1 mark in singles play this season.
In the rankings, Adachi teams with fellow senior Emily Fanning to form the 41st-ranked duo in the nation. Junior Justina Mikulskyte also comes in at No. 100 in the singles rankings.
The Wildcats will seek their first top 10 victory of the season against No. 9 Georgia (9-3, 4-1) on Friday evening. UGA is coming off its first conference loss of the season after falling 4-1 to South Carolina on Sunday. The Bulldogs’ roster features four ranked singles players, led by sixth-ranked Katarina Jokic. Georgia also has two doubles teams ranked inside the top 10.
Tennessee (13-5, 0-5) will face off with No. 3 Vanderbilt on Friday before traveling to Lexington for Sunday’s match. The Volunteers took a break from conference action last Sunday to earn a 4-0 victory over Lipscomb.
