Seb Masterton Books Trip to NCAA Championships on Day One of Zones
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kentucky diver Seb Masterton booked his trip to the 2018 NCAA Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Zone C Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The junior finished seventh overall in the men’s 3-meter competition to automatic qualify for the national meet.
“I thought we had some good individual performances,” said Kentucky diving coach Ted Hautau. “Sebastian competed really well. Battled through. Had some OK prelims and came back and just did his job on the finals. He really just hung tough with some dives.”
By earning the automatic bid, Masterton will now only need to finish in the top 12 on 1-meter and platform events to earn bids to the NCAA Championships in those events.
Masterton will make his third consecutive appearance at the national meet this year, having earned All-America Honorable Mention twice before, on 1-meter last season and on platform in 2016.
Sophomore Emma Dellmore advanced to the finals of the women’s 1-meter competition, finishing 16th overall in the event with a cumulative score of 532.10. The top eight finishers in the event qualified to the national championships.
“Emma Dellmore was fantastic,” added Hautau. “She was very consistent. Did a great job, really no misses and I thought she did very well.”
The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships will continue 1 p.m. ET. The divers will switch springboards, with the women competing on the 3-meter and the men on the 1-meter. Live results are available here.
