Kentucky Falls at No. 14 Oklahoma
NORMAN, Okla. – The Kentucky men’s tennis team was defeated 6-1 by No. 14 Oklahoma on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats fall to 7-4 this season, while Oklahoma improves to 10-1.
To open up doubles play, Cesar Bourgois and Gus Benson earned a 6-4 victory on court one, but UK would ultimately drop the first point with losses on the lower two courts. It was the first time this season that Bourgois and Benson were paired together.
But UK didn’t give up the point without a fight, as both doubles matches on courts two and three would be decided by extra sets. Ryotaro Matsumura and Enzo Wallart fell 5-7 on court two before Will Bushamuka and Austin Hussey lost their marathon tiebreaker, 7-6 (9) in No. 3 doubles.
Oklahoma went up 2-0 as Benson was defeated 6-0, 6-3 in No. 6 singles.
On court two, No. 63 Matsumura put the Wildcats on the board, winning 6-3, 6-1 to earn Kentucky’s only point of the match. Matsumura improves to 7-1 on the season and 6-1 on court two.
Hussey battled on court five, but the Sooners would take the match, 7-6 (1), 6-3 to go up 3-1 in the match. Oklahoma clinched the match as Bushamuka fell to No. 108 Alex Bakshi 6-4, 7-6 (2) on court one.
Kentucky will look to bounce back as they return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET when they open Southeastern Conference play at Alabama.
