No. 28 Kentucky Men’s Tennis Heads to No. 14 Oklahoma and No. 44 Alabama

NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 28 Kentucky (7-3) men’s tennis team will continue nonconference play on Friday at No. 14 Oklahoma before beginning Southeastern Conference play on Sunday at No. 44 Alabama. UK will face OU Friday at 2 p.m. ET and Alabama at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
 
Last weekend, UK earned a win over No. 7 Illinois, its first ranked win of the season. Austin Hussey completed the comeback for the Wildcats with a dramatic three set match over No. 83 Zeke Clark, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (9-11), 6-4. The win over Clark was Hussey’s first ranked win of the season. For his play, Hussey earned SEC Player of the Week. It was his first SEC weekly honor of his career.
 
Kentucky currently has two Wildcats ranked in the Oracle ITA singles rankings. Ryo Matsumura sits currently at No. 63, while Enzo Wallart is No. 115.
 
Oklahoma sits at No. 14 in the latest ITA rankings, and moved up 15 spots after upsetting No. 5 Texas A&M at a neutral site. OU is 9-1 this season, with its lone loss coming against Illinois in the second round of the ITA Kickoff. Ferran Calvo is the highest ranked Sooner at No. 22, and is 2-3 in dual play so far this season. Aleksandre Bakshi is ranked No. 108 for OU.
 
Alabama is No. 44 in the latest ITA rankings, and is 14-1 so far this season. UA’s lone loss came against No. 20 Arizona State, 4-3, at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. The Crimson Tide have one ranked singles player, Mazen Osama, who is currently No. 113. Alabama will face Vanderbilt to begin SEC play before taking on Kentucky.
 
After this weekend, Kentucky will continue SEC play with a pair of home matches against Arkansas and Ole Miss on March 9 and March 11.
