Kentucky Travels to Sunshine State for 2018 Citrus Classic
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a perfect 4-0 weekend at the 2018 Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego, Kentucky will travel south to the 2018 Diamond 9 Citrus Classic this weekend to play five games in three days at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
All Kentucky games of the Citrus Classic will be streamed live on FloSoftball’s website, which can be watched online, using Roku or Apple TV on smart devices. A full broadcast schedule of games can be found here as the event schedule gets finalized. Fans must have or purchase a subscription to FloSoftball in order to be able to watch the events.
The Wildcats will be playing their first ranked team of the season right out of the chute as UK will face No. 22 Minnesota on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ET. UK will also be playing first-year team Duke, Bradley, Harvard and Purdue in the Sunshine State.
Kentucky has been hot offensively hitting .344 as a team through the opening seven games of the season, with Bailey Vick leading the way at .722. Abbey Cheek has been an RBI machine for the Wildcats with 12 already inside of the first two weekends aided by a team-best four home runs, including two in one game against New Mexico State.
It was a good bounce-back weekend for the Wildcats in the circle at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in which three different pitchers combined to throw 27 innings of softball with a 0.38 ERA and allowing just two runs. Freshman Grace Baalman threw two complete-game shutouts, including against San Diego State in her first-career start in the Blue and White. That was followed by Autumn Humes’ debut start in the circle, who proceeded to throw a no-hitter against North Dakota State, who was an NCAA Regional team a season ago.
Kentucky begins play in Orlando on Friday at 3 p.m. ET with a doubleheader against No. 22 Minnesota and Duke on Field 12 of the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
