Jones and Davies Selected to SEC Community Service Team

by Karlie Kinneer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky seniors Isaac Jones and Ann Davies have been named to the 2018 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Community Service Teams the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Each year, the Community Service Team looks to highlight athletes from each school who give back to their communities in superior service efforts.

A native of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, Davies has spent the past four years pursuing her degree in social work. With that, Davies has spent several hours volunteering at Amachi Central Kentucky, a mentoring program that pairs positive adults with children who have been affected by incarceration. The UK senior went on a week-long service trip to Panama over the summer, volunteering in the community. Davies has also volunteered for God’s Pantry Backpack Program, Salvation Army, served dinner to homeless people at the Hope Center, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and spent time at local schools, helping students with homework and reading.

A 2017-18 team captain, Davies has been a contributor for the Wildcats in each of her past three seasons as  a scorer at the SEC Championships. A 2016 US Olympic Trials qualifier, Davies has also excelled in the classroom, being named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll in her rookie campaign and twice to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll.

Jones, who is an education major at Kentucky, has spent numerous hours volunteering at multiple schools in the Lexington area, mentoring students and assisting teachers. A native of Allansford, Australia, he has volunteered with the Salvation Army, Tri for Sight, the Iron Horse Half Marathon, the Ronald McDonald House and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

A men’s team captain this season, Jones is the school record-holder in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle events, and holds the fastest times in the SEC in both of those events this season. Jones was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll and twice to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll.
