Kentucky Set to Take On Louisville Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky swimming and diving team will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Louisville, Ky., to face off against in-state foe Louisville inside the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Diving events will begin at noon ET, with swimming competition commencing at 1 p.m.
“It’s always exciting to swim against Louisville,” said Kentucky head coach Lars Jorgensen. “We have a lot of respect for them as they have two outstanding teams. It will be a tough competition, but we’re ready for the challenge. It should be a fun meet.”
The Cardinals boast two talents groups this season, with its men’s and women’s squad both ranked inside the top 15 of each respective CSCAA Division I Poll. The Louisville women are ranked No. 10 in the nation, while then Cardinal men are No. 14. Louisville’s women’s team is led by junior Mallory Comerford, who owns nation-leading times in both the 100 free and 200 free.
The Kentucky women’s team climbed one spot to No. 14 in the national rankings this week, while the UK men are receiving votes in the latest poll. Six Kentucky swimmers across 10 individual performances currently rank inside the top 16 nationally. The men’s team is led by senior Isaac Jones who ranks inside the top-10 nationally in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle. Sophomore Asia Seidt leads the women’s team, ranked fifth in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 IM.
Kentucky has not seen action since hosting its tri meet against Ohio State and Toledo two weeks ago, when the Wildcats defeated Toledo, but fell to the visiting Buckeyes on both sides.
Saturday’s meet will be UK’s final road dual of the season as the Wildcats will host their regular season finale next Friday, Jan. 26 against Cincinnati. The meet will serve as Senior Day for Kentucky’s eight seniors.
