LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior outside hitter Annika Albrecht had a match-high 13 kills and freshman Jazz Sweet added nine as fifth-seeded Nebraska topped Colorado 25-19, 25-11, 25-21 on Friday at Memorial Coliseum.
Mikaela Foecke had seven kills for Nebraska, while Briana Holman and Lauren Stivrins each had six. Senior setter Kelly Hunter had 25 assists and 10 digs for the Huskers.
The first set was tied 4-4 before Nebraska scored four in a row to open an early advantage. Colorado would rally to tie the set 12-12. After the Huskers extended the lead to 20-16, the Buffs rallied to make it 21-19, but Nebraska would score the last four points of the set to win it 25-19. Jazz Sweet had six kills in the set for the Huskers, while Kelly Hunter had three kills and 14 assists.
Colorado took a 3-1 lead early in the second set before Nebraska reeled off six consecutive points to take a 7-3 lead. From there, Nebraska methodically increased its advantage behind a balanced offensive effort. The Huskers would win the set 25-11 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
In set three, Colorado again took a 3-1 lead, and again saw that lead quickly evaporate. An 8-3 Nebraska run gave the Huskers a 9-6 lead. However, Colorado would not go away, and the Buffs battled back to lead 12-11. But, as they have done all season, Nebraska answered the bell, finishing the set on a 11-7 run to win 25-21 and claim the match in a sweep.
Alexa Smith led Colorado with nine kills in the match.
Nebraska advances to Saturday’s regional final, where they will meet Kentucky at 4 p.m. ET.
