Euler Tied for First Through 36 Holes at Steelwood
Day One Results
LOXLEY, Ala. – Junior Lukas Euler carded consecutive rounds of 2-under-par, 70, and is tied for first heading into the final 18 holes of play to pace the No. 8 Kentucky men’s golf team at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. Euler is in a three-way tie following the opening day’s action.
Kentucky capped the day in third, trailing second-place Kennesaw State by five strokes. Top-ranked Alabama is the only team under par and leads the field by six strokes heading into Sunday’s final round.
Euler was magnificent for the Wildcats. He accumulated eight combined birdies during the two rounds and is the lone UK player under par. He is in search of his first collegiate victory. Euler has garnered top-20 finishes in all three fall events this season, which includes a career-best finish of third at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate to open the season.
Players will tee off at 9:30 a.m. ET off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes. Kentucky will begin Sunday’s round off the first tee at 10:24 a.m. Euler begins his round at 11 a.m.
Player Roundup
Euler started his day off the par-four third and immediately carded a red number. He would also birdie the par-five ninth to get started at 2-under par. The Dieburg, Germany, native moved his score to 4-under par through his first 12 holes following birdies on the 12th and 14th holes. A double-bogey on the par-four 15th would be his only setback as he finished his round with even-par scores the rest of the way.
Playing continuously, he birdied two of his first seven holes with another red number on the ninth during his second round. Over the course’s back nine, Euler posted a birdie on the 14th but give a stroke back on the 17th. To close out his round, he would get into red numbers on the par-three second, which was played as his 18th hole of the round.
Euler is seeking to become the third different UK player to win individual honors this fall. Seniors Chip McDaniel and Cooper Musselman already have wins through Kentucky’s first three events.
McDaniel sits in a tie for 16th following Saturday’s action. He’s in the hunt for his fourth-consecutive top-20 finish. The Manchester, Kentucky, native had rounds of 74 and 72, with his second round marking the fifth par-or-better round of his fall campaign.
Freshman Jacob Cook, playing as an individual this week, is in a tie for 18th and in contention for his first collegiate top-20 finish. Cook carded scores of 71 and 76. His opening-round 71 was the first par-or-better round of his career. The round featured three birdies, including two on consecutive holes at the fourth and the fifth.
Musselman is tied for 23rd following two rounds of 74. He’s one shot off the pace for a top-20 finish. Junior Evan Cox concluded his day in a tie for 45th, while sophomore Matt Liston is in 51st.
