Kentucky Softball Named Easton/NFCA All-Academic Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Not only was 2017 a banner year for the Kentucky softball team on the field – but it was another strong year off the field as well for the Wildcats, who earned the 2017 Easton/NFCA Division I All-Academic honor, it was announced on Wednesday.
 
Under the direction of team academic advisor, Amy Craiglow, the Wildcats earned a 3.425 GPA which was the second-highest in all of the Southeastern Conference – and in the top 40 nationally. The team GPA of a 3.425 was the second-highest among female sports at UK for the spring semester of 2017.
 
One of the most impressive feats may also be that the 23 Wildcats are majoring in 17 different majors with six earning a perfect 4.0 GPA a season ago. Hannah Huffman, Breanne Ray, Katie Reed, Erin Rethlake, Jenny Schaper and Bailey Vick all had a perfect 4.0 GPA with four of those players (Ray, Rethlake, Reed, Vick) earning a weekly or season-long SEC award from the conference office.
 
One of the success stories that comes from Craiglow’s work off the field and in the classroom comes in the form of 2011 CoSIDA Academic All-American, Meagan Aull – who recently purchased a dental practice after graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Aull was the 2011 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year for the Wildcats, who advanced to their first Super Regional in program history that year.
 
Some of the majors of players on the current roster include Moderate & Severe Disabilities, Human Health Science, Elementary Education, Dietetics, Accounting, Kinesiology, Integrated Strategic Communication, Art Studio, Computer Science, Dentistry and Business.
 
Also in 2017, Ray became the second CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history with above a 3.9 GPA for her cumulative career tally.
