Kentucky Hosts LSU In Stand-Alone Weekend

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s soccer team will host the LSU Tigers on Friday night at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington in the first stand-alone weekend of the 2017 Southeastern Conference season.

All teams will participate in just one match this weekend – with the Tigers and Wildcats tangling on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday. The game will be broadcasted live with Dave Baker (pxp) and former UK All-American Stuart Pope (color) on the call from the Bluegrass.

Friday night’s match will be Youth Night, where youth tickets are $1 for kids ages 6-18 years old. It will also be Junior Wildcat Night, where free admission for all Junior Wildcat Club members will take place, in addition to one guest. It’s also another Family Friday with families able to purchase four hot dogs and four drinks for only $20 at the match. All players will sign autographs following the conclusion of the match, weather permitting.

LSU enters the weekend with seven wins to one loss and two draws on the season – in addition to a sparkly No. 11 spot in this week’s release of the NCAA RPI. The Tigers are coming off a point Sunday night at Alabama in a 2-2 draw against the Crimson Tide.

Kentucky is 5-7 on the season and is coming off a tough loss to Auburn on Sunday afternoon on The Plains after a fantastic performance against No. 3 South Carolina at home Thursday night at The Bell.

UK leads the all-time series with LSU, 12-6-2 with LSU having won the last two meetings (both in 2015). The teams met in the final game of the regular season, and the first round of the 2015 SEC Tournament in Orange Beach with LSU taking the spoils in both matches.

LSU visits The Bell with a 7-1-2 record.  Their only loss came in their eighth match of the season to Vanderbilt at home. The Tigers are 0-1-2 in conference play, with ties from games versus Alabama at Alabama (1-1) and Mississippi State at home (2-2). Earlier in the season, LSU won over No. 12 Cincinnati in a 1-0 result at home. LSU has six players that have scored more than two goals on the season. Their most notable player, Alex Thomas, has earned six goals on the season.
