Sutjiadi and Adachi Readied for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Kentucky women’s tennis players Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi are set to compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships beginning Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Sutjiadi will represent the Wildcats in the singles draw and will team up with Adachi in the doubles competition.
Making her second consecutive appearance in the NCAA singles field, No. 22 Sutjiadi will kick off play against Penn’s Kana Daniel at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning in the Round of 64. Leading the Wildcats to one of their most successful seasons in recent years, the senior compiled an 19-14 overall record at the No. 1 spot. She also led the team in ranked singles wins, including victories over then-No. 34 Alizee Michaud of Auburn and then-No. 48 Shannon Hudson of Arkansas.
Daniel, ranked No. 119 in the most recent ITA Rankings, put together a 19-11 singles record in her senior season including two wins over top-50 opponents to pick up First Team All-Ivy honors. Should Sutjiadi win the first-round bout, the senior would advance to the Round of 32 to face the winner of fifth-seeded Blair Shankle (Baylor) and No. 42 Brittany Lindl (Tennessee).
With the No. 3 overall seed, Adachi and Sutjiadi will make their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Thursday, taking on Georgia Tech’s 23rd-ranked tandem of Johnnise Renaud and Rasheeda McAdoo.
After advancing to the quarterfinals last season and locking down Kentucky’s first All-America honors since 2007, the Kentucky pair enjoyed another successful campaign in 2017. In the fall season, the two teamed up to win UK’s first-ever national championship, earning the doubles title at the ITA Indoor Championship. The twosome holds a 20-9 overall record this season, including a 7-4 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The duo went 7-7 against the 32-team field this season including victories over five of the seven additional seeded pairs.
Georgia Tech’s top-ranked doubles team, Renaud and McAdoo are riding a 10-match win streak at the No. 2 spot and own a 22-4 overall record this season. The pair is 3-2 against doubles teams currently ranked inside the top 50 of the ITA national rankings.
Start times for the doubles tournament have not yet been announced.
