Wildcats Host No. 12 South Carolina on Senior Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. – In its regular season finale, the No. 13 Kentucky women’s tennis team will host No. 12 South Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the Boone Tennis Complex. First serve is set for noon, with Senior Day festivities honoring UK’s two seniors, Morgan Chumney and Aldila Sutjiadi, beginning at 11:30.
The No. 4 seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament will be on the line for both teams, who each own matching 7-5 records in league play. Regardless of Sunday’s outcome, the Wildcats have already secured their first winning season in SEC play since 2007.
In the overall series between the two programs, the Gamecocks own a 20-17 advantage. In their last meeting, South Carolina came back from a 3-2 deficit to pick up a 4-3 victory.
KENTUCKY ATHLETES IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Kentucky’s veteran duo of senior Sutjiadi and junior Mami Adachi is ranked No. 2 in the ITA rankings. They began 2017 as the nation’s top-ranked pair after winning their first national title at the UTSA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 22. The twosome is 13-6 in the spring season, including a 7-4 mark in SEC play, all at No. 1 doubles.
The tandem of Akvile Paražinskaite and Chumney is also among the nation’s best, at No. 84 in the ITA rankings. The pair owns a 6-3 record in SEC matches this season.
Individually, Sutjiadi is UK’s top-ranked singles player, holding the No. 19 singles spot. In the fall season, Sutjiadi won the singles title at the 2016 Ohio Valley Regional Championships. The senior owns a 7-8 record in dual matches this season all at No. 1 singles.
SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
South Carolina (16-7, 7-5 SEC) is coming off a 4-1 loss to No. 5 Vanderbilt.
The Gamecocks’ roster features two ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs. In singles, No. 43 Ingrid Gamarra Martins leads the way for South Carolina, while No. 53 Mia Horvit is close behind. In doubles, Hadley Berg and Caroline Dailey form the 57th-ranked pair.

Kentucky will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, next week for the 2017 SEC Tournament. Hosted by Vanderbilt, the tournament will be held April 19-23.
