No. 13 Kentucky Falls to Top-Ranked Gators, 4-0

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 13 Kentucky women’s tennis team was handed its first home loss of the season on Friday evening, falling 4-0 to top-ranked Florida at the Boone Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 15-6 overall and 7-5 in league play, while the Gators own a league leading 21-1, 11-1 Southeastern Conference record. 

Despite taking Florida to tiebreaks in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Wildcats would drop the first point in the match. UF drew first blood as No. 19 Anna Danilina and Ingrid Neel defeated UK’s second-ranked pair of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi and sealed the point with a 7-6 (3) victory over Emily Fanning and Justina Mikulskyte in No. 3 doubles. Akvile Paražinskaite and Morgan Chumney trailed 4-6 in their tiebreak as doubles play ceased. 

The Wildcats deficit grew to two as Chumney fell to No. 40 Kourtney Keegan in No. 6 doubles, 6-2, 6-1, but the remaining points didn’t come so easy for the Gators. 

Kentucky put up a fight with strong efforts across the board, but the Wildcats wouldn’t be able to get over the hump. Sutjiadi fell to seventh-ranked Belinda Woolcock, 6-4, 6-4, to give Woolcock her sixth-consecutive singles victory. Fanning took No. 37 Danilina to a third set, but ran out of gas at the end and gave Florida the team triumph.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday for their final regular-season match, playing host to No. 12 South Carolina at noon. The match will serve as Senior Day for Kentucky’s two seniors.
