Late Rally Pushes No. 21 LSU Past No. 11 Kentucky

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 11 Kentucky women’s tennis team got out to an early 3-1 lead over No. 21 LSU but couldn’t hold off a late surge from the Tigers, falling 4-3. The Wildcats drop to 14-4 overall and 7-3 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while LSU advances to 13-6, 6-4 SEC. 

The Wildcats picked up the first point in the match, playing through doubles with ease. Emily Fanning and Justina Mikulskyte were the first to see success, earning a 6-4 victory in No. 3 doubles. Kentucky’s second-ranked duo of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi sealed the point, defeating No. 24 Ryann Foster and Joana Valle Costa, 6-3. As the point was clinch, Morgan Chumney and Akvile Paražinskaite also led in No. 2 doubles, 5-3.

To kick of singles play, Chumney stretched UK’s lead to two with a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory in No. 6 singles. The Tigers pulled back within one as Adachi was taken down in straight sets on court three. To give Kentucky a 3-1 lead, Fanning posted a 6-4, 6-2 triumph on court four, but that would be the final push for the Wildcats as they dropped the next three matches.

UK will look to bounce back on Sunday, continuing its road stretch and traveling to take on No. 22 Texas A&M. First serve is set for noon ET.
