LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 11 Kentucky women’s tennis team will continue Southeastern Conference competition this weekend, traveling to No. 21 LSU on Friday and 22nd-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday. First serve against the Tigers is set for 5 p.m. ET, while Sunday’s match will begin at noon.
The Wildcats are 15-3 overall this season, including a 7-2 record in league action. After defeating No. 48 Missouri on Sunday, this season marks the first since 2006 in which the Wildcats have tallied at least seven conference wins in a season. Kentucky has won three straight matches and seven of its last eight.
Against LSU, Kentucky trails 17-19 in the overall series. In the last meeting between the two programs, the Tigers won a 4-3 battle to oust the Wildcats from the 2016 SEC Tournament. The outcome mimicked that of the regular-season matchup between the two schools.
Kentucky will look to build upon its 11-4 lead in the series against the Texas A&M. Last season, UK downed the Aggies, 6-1 in Lexington.
KENTUCKY ATHLETES IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Kentucky’s veteran duo of senior Aldila Sutjiadi and junior Mami Adachi is ranked No. 2 in the ITA rankings. They began 2017 as the nation’s top-ranked tandem after winning their first national title at the UTSA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 22. The twosome is 11-5 in the spring season, including a 5-3 mark in SEC play, all at No. 1 doubles.
Individually, Sutjiadi is UK’s top-ranked singles player, holding the No. 17 singles spot. In the fall season, Sutjiadi won the singles title at the 2016 Ohio Valley Regional Championships. The senior owns a 7-5 record and has downed three ranked SEC opponents throughout the dual season, all at No. 1 singles.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
LSU (12-6, 5-4 SEC) dropped both its matches last weekend to No. 28 Ole Miss and No. 24 Mississippi State.
The Tigers’ roster features two ranked singles players in No. 34 Jade Lewis and No. 120 Joana Valle Costa, along with one ranked tandem in No. 24 Valle Costa/Ryann Foster.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Texas A&M (11-10, 3-6 SEC) is coming off a 4-1 victory over No. 28 Ole Miss last Sunday. The Aggies will first face seventh-ranked Vanderbilt on Friday before playing Kentucky as part of a double header on Sunday.
TAMU’s lineup boasts a top-10 doubles pair in No. 6 Rutuja Bhosale/Rachel Pierson. The pair jumped up six spots this week, having won six straight matches. In singles, Pierson leads the Aggies at the No. 38 spot, while Bhosale comes in at No. 107.
