GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Destiny Carter finished as top collegian in the 200 meters to highlight the Kentucky track and field teams’ Thursday at the Florida Relays.
The All-American ran a wind-legal PR 22.92 (+1.6 meters/second) to place third overall behind a pair of world-class professionals. Her time would rank as the third fastest time not aided by a tailwind greater than +2.0 in the country so far this season.
Kianna Gray opened up with a 23.25, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn ran 23.41 and Javianne Oliver ran 23.44w (+2.5). UK volunteer assistant Kori Carter placed fifth overall in 23.25.
Kentucky class of 2015 alumna Leah Nugent, making her first 400m hurdles start since the Olympic Final last August, ran her fastest season-opening time ever: 55.53. That is the early world-leader.
Kentucky Class of 2015 Raymond Dykstra placed third in the javelin with a season best 230’9”/70.34m. Elijah Marta and Ethan Shalaway also tossed season bests 218’7”/66.63m and 218’3”/66.52m to place eighth and ninth respectively.
Ini-Oluwa Oye and Nick Anderson paced Kentucky in the men’s 200m with times of 21.41 and 21.43 respectively. Oye’s time was his best wind-legal performance at UK and Anderson’s was a PR.
The meet will continue on Friday starting with the women’s discus at noon ET.
SEC Network+ will broadcast live coverage via ESPN3/WatchESPN. The window for Friday’s competition is from 12:10-4:10 p.m. ET. The coverage will resume Saturday’s from 2:35-7:10 p.m.
Kentucky’s women’s team is ranked No. 2 in the country and the men’s team is ranked No. 22. The 2017 Florida Relays feature 20 ranked teams – 10 men’s and 10 women’s.
