LEXINGTON, Kentucky – The Kentucky men’s golf team looks to continue its consistent play in its 13th-consecutive appearance at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, South Carolina, March 26-28. The Wildcats enter the event after a top five finish at the Schenkel Invitational a week ago that saw two individuals place in the top 15.
What Head Coach Brian Craig is Saying:
“We’ve played in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate since it started in 2005. It is absolutely one of the greatest events in college golf and is unique in its approach to how they raise money for the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation. Bulls Bay golf course is always a great test of golf and is always in great shape. The field will be stellar again this year. We look forward to the challenge and are ready to go.”
About the lineup:
Cooper Musselman’s team-leading scoring average (71.7) continues to improve, especially when a 5-under-par 67 at Schenkel Invitational showed up on the scorecard. The junior had a career day during the final round with seven birdies, which placed him in a tie for eighth for his fifth top-10 finish in seven starts this season. Eight of Musselman’s last 12 rounds have been under par.
Tyler “Chip” McDaniel enters the tournament with great confidence. UK’s junior All-American played the final two rounds of the Schenkel Invitational at 5-under par – a 68 on day two, which is just one stroke from his season-low (67), and 71 on the final day. He’s still right behind Musselman in second on the team in scoring average at a staunch 71.8 strokes. McDaniel’s tie for 15th place was his fifth top-20 performance of the season.
Lukas Euler tied for 29th in the last outing and ninth in the prior tournament. He has three top-20 finishes this season. Through 13 rounds and five events, Euler holds a 72.9 stroke average. Stephen Stallings also has three top-20 finishes this season and a low 54-hole score of 214, which ranks third on the team. Fred Allen Meyer has two top-10 finishes; his last came two tournaments ago at the General Hackler Championship where he tied for ninth.
Freshman Matt Liston will play his third tournament as a Wildcat. The Louisville, Kentucky, native shot a career-best 71 (-1) in the second round of the Schenkel Invitational and finished inside the top 50 tied for 46th place.
