No. 23 Kentucky Heads to No. 26 South Carolina on Sunday

COLUMBIA, S.C., – The No. 23 Kentucky men’s tennis team will continue Southeastern Conference play this week when UK faces No. 26 South Carolina on Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at the Carolina Tennis Center. 
Last weekend, the Wildcats spilt a pair of matches against Auburn and Mississippi State. The Cats took down Auburn, 6-1, to begin the weekend and fell to Mississippi State, 4-3 last Sunday. Will Bushamuka led the way for the Wildcats, earning two wins over ranked opponents. Bushamuka started the weekend by defeating No. 64 Max Hinnisdaels of Auburn, 6-3, 6-4 and finished it with a top-five win over No. 4 Nuno Burges, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). 
South Carolina is 14-4 overall and 3-2 in SEC play this season. SC will face No. 41 Vanderbilt on Friday before welcoming Kentucky to the Carolina Tennis Center. Harrison O’Keefe was named SEC Co-Athlete of the Week last weekend after beating a top-25 opponent, and is currently ranked No. 88 for the Gamecocks. Gabriel Friedrich is also ranked for South Carolina at No. 59. 
The Cats are currently ranked No. 23 as a team in the latest ITA rankings, and have multiple singles and doubles duos ranked. In singles, Will Bushamuka leads the way at No. 17, while Ryo Matsumura comes in at No. 24. Nils Ellefsen is also ranked at No. 113. In doubles, Beck Pennington and Enzo Wallart are ranked No. 27, jumping up from 43 spots from the last rankings. The duo of Bushamuka and Ellefsen make their first appearance in the rankings, coming in at No. 77. 
After this weekend, the Cats stay on the road to take on Vanderbilt on Thursday, March 30.
