Wildcats Set for Top-20 Showdown at Miami Spring Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 20 Kentucky women’s tennis team will continue its road stretch this weekend as they head to Coral Gables, Florida to compete against three top-20 squads in No. 9 Vanderbilt, as well as host-school No. 12 Miami and 13th-ranked Texas Tech.
In all, the weekend’s competition will feature 10 singles players that sit inside the Oracle/ITA top 125, including three top-15 athletes in No. 2 Astra Sharma from Vanderbilt, No. 6 Sinead Lohan from Miami and Kentucky’s 12th-ranked Aldila Sutjiadi.
The doubles field will be equally stacked with five ranked duos, led by UK’s No. 1-ranked pair of Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi. Kentucky is the only school in the invite to boast two ranked doubles pairs, as Akvile Paražinskaite and Emily Fanning hold down the No. 57 spot.
The Wildcats started their season with a 1-0 record after downing Marshall 4-0 on Wednesday evening. For the three additional teams competing this weekend, it will be their first outing of the 2017 season.
Each day will open with doubles play. Action is slated to begin at 8 a.m. both Friday and Saturday, and will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Singles matches will follow shortly after each day.
Kentucky will open the invite by playing Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt in doubles and Miami in singles on Friday. Saturday, the Wildcats will take on Texas Tech in doubles and Vanderbilt in singles. To conclude the weekend, UK will face Miami in doubles and Texas Tech in singles on Sunday.
