LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer head
coach Ian Carry kicked off the spring season on Thursday morning with a strong
team workout in the wee hours of the morning, setting the tone for a
championship-caliber offseason.

The team was up early Thursday morning,
starting a group run for a handful of miles with the entire coaching staff at 5
a.m. ET to start on conditioning for the spring season. Carry met with the team
for the first time since winter recess on Wednesday evening, laying out the
fundamental core values of the new women’s soccer program to the team.

“Today we set a prescient on the work ethic
and the work rate that it’s going to take for us this coming spring in order to
have success in the fall.” Carry said. “The team has come back with a great
attitude. The conversation that we had in December leading to the Christmas
break was setting goals and standards for them. We put those in place so that
for when we have a 5 a.m. workout like this morning, they are ready to go.
Their attitude was fantastic.”

One of the things that Coach Carry has been
stressing since he was appointed the head coaching position in late November is
the importance of the team and doing things as a unit. On Thursday, Carry and
his entire staff led the way for the workout, participating in all aspects of
the exercise – just like the staff will continue to do all spring long to set
an example for the team to learn and grow from.

“This morning was all about setting the tone
for the new season,” junior midfielder Katy Keen said. “We wanted to be the
first to do everything, so we woke up at 4:30, got here at 4:45 and then
started our run at five. The coaches ran with us. It’s all about being a team
and a family, so it was really good to get out there, run some trails and set
the tone for things being all about each other. We are trying to set new
standards. We have a new staff and they are trying to set new goals for us to
win championships and that starts with us being better people.”
