FLUSHING, N.Y. – Kentucky’s No. 1-ranked duo of senior Aldila
Sutjiadi and junior Mami Adachi outlasted No. 12 Gabriela Knutson/Valeria
Salazar from Syracuse at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor
Championships on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats won the tiebreak, 6-3, 4-6,
1-0(8), to advance to finals match for the second consecutive year.

Kentucky will square off against UCLA’s Jada Hart and Ena
Shibahara at 10 a.m. tomorrow. The UCLA pair ousted Oklahoma State’s Vladica
Babic and Carla Tur Mari in straight sets on Saturday, 6-3, 6-3, to secure a
spot in the finals.20161106013846_dila_ita_indoors_jpg

Should the Wildcats be victorious, it would be the first
time a Kentucky duo has won the title. Last year saw Sutjiadi/Adachi tie UK’s
previous best finish, which came when Sonia Hahn and Tamaka Takagi finished as
the runners-up in 1988.

This marks the fourth consecutive year the Wildcats have been
represented in the Indoor Championships, the last three of which included appearances by
Sutjiadi.

Hosted by Columbia
University at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center, the Indoor Championships
serves as the final major tournament of the fall season. The event features
some of the best collegiate tennis players in the country in its 32-player
singles draw and 20-team doubles draw.

In order to qualify
for the event, participants either must be winners of the UTSA/ITA Division I
Regional Championships, winners of the ITA Oracle Cup or be consolation
champions, doubles finalists, men’s singles quarterfinalists or women’s singles
semifinalists from the Saint Francis ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women’s
All-American Championships.
