Wildcats in the Pros -- Oct. 11

Each week, Wildcats in the Pros catches up with some former Kentucky student-athletes who are doing big things in professional athletics.

Former Wildcat and current Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb, had a big outing against the New York Giants on Sunday night.  Coming off of a bye in Week 4, Cobb had an impressive game helping the Packers take a 23-16 victory over the Giants.
Cobb had nine receptions for 108 yards, including a huge catch on a third-and-six later in the fourth quarter to seal the win for Green Bay.
Three former Kentucky linebackers made their presence felt over the weekend. Josh Forrest of the Los Angeles Rams had his first two career tackles in a loss to the Buffalo Bills.  Avery Williamson had three tackles, helping the Tennessee Titans to a 30-17 win over the Miami Dolphins.  And Danny Trevathan, playing with a cast on his surgically-repaired thumb, had six combined tackles as his Chicago Bears fell to the Indianapolis Colts.
Postseason Baseball
It didn’t take long for former Wildcat Joe Blanton to get involved in postseason action. Blanton, a relief pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, relieved Clayton Kershaw in the Dodgers’ first playoff game, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing only a walk. Blanton was credited with a hold in a game that the Dodgers eventually won 4-3.
On Monday night, Blanton was solid out of the bullpen once again for the Dodgers. The right-hander pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up just one hit while striking out three in an 8-3 Dodgers loss.
Gilliland to USA National Team
Former Wildcat soccer star Arin Gilliland is having a really good few weeks. The current Chicago Red Stars defender recently found out that she was called up to the United States Women’s National Team, the first UK soccer player to ever be called up by USWNT.
Gilliland’s roster debut will be in a back-to-back matchup against Switzerland on October 19 and October 23. Gilliland will join the roster with 24 other players in the camp.
Gilliland currently plays professionally for the Chicago Red Stars, where she recently found out that she’s a finalist for Defender of the Year in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
