A pair of former Wildcats had big games for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Avery Williamson led the team with 12 total tackles, while Wesley Woodyard had four stops, including one tackle for a loss, as the Titans came up short against the Houston Texans.
Jacob Tamme made the most of his opportunities on Sunday. The Atlanta Falcons tight end caught just two passes, but one of them was for a touchdown, as the Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers 48-33. The touchdown was Tamme’s second of the season.
Holmes Helps Americans Win Ryder Cup
J.B. Holmes made it two-for-two in the Ryder Cup on Sunday, as the former Wildcat was once again part of an American side that brought home one of golf’s most prestigious trophies.
Holmes earned one full point for the American side, pairing with Ryan Moore to beat Europe’s Danny Willett and Lee Westwood in Saturday’s four-ball play.
Holmes has been on two Ryder Cup teams, 2008 and 2016, both years the USA team clinching a win. He and Phil Mickelson are the only two players who were on both winning teams.
Former Wildcats Ready for Postseason
A pair of former Wildcat baseball players have a chance to play postseason baseball in 2016.
Joe Blanton had an impressive season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a 7-2 record with a 2.48 ERA. In 80 innings of work, the Ashland, Kentucky, native gave up just 55 hits, while walking 26 and striking out 80.
Blanton’s Dodgers will face the Washington Nationals in the playoffs beginning on Friday. The Nationals got good work down the stretch from another former Wildcat, Trevor Gott.
Pitching out of the bullpen, Gott worked six innings over the last month of the season, and will have a shot at being on the Nationals’ postseason roster. Gott allowed only one earned run in nine outings on the season.
