UK Soccer Opens Home Season Against Duquesne Tuesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s soccer team will open the 2016 home portion of the schedule against Duquesne on Tuesday at The Bell.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The match will be broadcast on SEC Network+.

The matchup

Kentucky enters 1-0-0 on the season after a 4-0 win at Marquette last Friday. All-America contender Napo Matsoso bossed the first match of his senior season scoring the first two goals and passing up a hat trick for an assist to Xahne Reid in the dying moments.

Alex Bumpus also scored the first goal of his career, while Stuart Ford kept a clean sheet in his first career start behind an experienced back four led by MAC Hermann Award watch list member Jordan Wilson alongside Bumpus, Charlie Reymann and Tanner Hummel.

Duquesne is also 1-0-0 after an overtime win against St. Francis (Pennsylvania) last week.

The logistics

Gates will open at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for the general public and $2 for youth and seniors. Fans can purchase tickets online via Ticketmaster (ukathletics.com/page/tickets-soccer-single-matches) or by calling (800) 928-2287, or at the ticket window at The Bell. 

Kentucky’s 600-plus season ticket holders can wear their 2016 Kentucky Soccer scarves to gain admission.

Parking for the match is first come first served located outside the stadium’s main entrance. Overflow parking will be available above the soccer practice pitch.

The first 250 fans in attendance will get a commemorative Kentucky v Duquesne match poster. 

UK players will sign autographs on the side of the pitch following the match weather-permitting.

Kentucky welcomed a record 17,871 fans to men’s soccer games at The Bell this season, an average of 1,489 per game, which has given the Wildcats one of the best gameday atmospheres in the country.

The Wildcats have welcomed a total of 29,542 fans through the gates of The Bell in the previous two seasons it has existed.

The precedent

Kentucky and Duquesne have never played before.

Kentucky has won every home opener dating to the 2008 season. 

The Wildcats went 9-2-1 at home last season, and have won 15 matches in the two-year history of The Bell.
