Camacho-Quinn, Sorrillo Advance to Semis Tuesday Morning at Rio Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO – Kentucky freshman Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and alumnus Rondel Sorrillo advanced to semifinals in the 100-meter hurdles and 200m respectively during the Tuesday morning session of the athletics meet at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.

Camacho-Quinn – representing Puerto Rico – won her preliminary heat in 12.70 (+1.0). Making her Olympic debut she got out of the blocks okay, but surged past the field in the second half of the race finishing with the third fastest time of the heats.
The semifinals and finals are scheduled for the Wednesday evening session. 
Sorrillo – the 2009 NCAA 200-Meter Champion who now serves on the UK track and field staff as a volunteer assistant coach while training under head coach Edrick Floréal’s direction and competing for Nike – began the preliminary heats of his signature event. 
He ran his best time of this season to date, placing third in heat 10 in 20.27q (+1.0). He had the 13th fastest time of the prelims and was a wildcard advancer to the semis on time.
The men’s 200m semifnals are scheduled for 9 p.m. ET n Wednesday.
Sorrillo – representing Trinidad and Tobago — is also scheduled to compete in Rio in the 4x100m relay. He ran the heats of the 100m on Saturday.
Leah Nugent will be in the third semifinal heat on Tuesday at 8:24 p.m. ET. Those heats should fall in the NBC primetime broadcast Windows but that is subject to change. The first two in each heat will advance to the final automatically. The next two fastest times from all three semifinals will advance on time.
The networks of NBC own the broadcast rights for the Olympic Games in the United States. All track and field at the games will be streamed live via nbcolympics.com and the NBC Sports app.

Wildcats Andrew Evans (Team USA), Camacho-Quinn (Puerto Rico), Nugent (Jamaica), Sorrillo (T&T), Luis Orta (Venezuela) and Mikel Thomas (Trinidad and Tobago) are also competing in athletics at the Rio Olympic Games.
Camacho-Quinn is completing her standout freshman season at the Games. She, and alumni Nugent and Sorrillo all train at Kentucky under head coach Edrick Floréal’s direction.
The athletics portion of the Olympic Games will run until Sunday, Aug. 21, which is the day of closing ceremonies.
