Former Wildcat Zach Strecker Inks Deal with Minnesota Twins

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former Kentucky right-handed reliever Zach Strecked has signed a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins organization.
The 6-4 righty signed in late June and was then assigned to the Gulf Coast League Twins, where he has made four appearances so far this summer.
Strecker, a native of Louisville, Ky., made 22 appearances with a 3-2 record in his final season as a Wildcat, working 29.1 innings in the process. He allowed just seven runs in relief during the season and gave up 25 hits while striking out 20 batters. In Kentucky’s opening day game against Wofford College he posted season highs for innings pitched (3.1), strikeouts (5) and pitches thrown (53).
Strecker has found success before during summer ball, being named a Prospect League All-Star in 2013 with the Slippery Rock Sliders. A workhorse in the league, he went 5-2 with a 2.27 ERA in 10 games and eight starts. Strecker worked 63.1 innings, allowing five walks and 66 hits, striking out 28. He also worked one shutout during the season and pitched at least six innings in all eight of his starts, including one complete game win.
