CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Kentucky women’s golfers Jordan Chael, Cylia Damerau and Isabelle Johansson were named to the 2015-16 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team on Tuesday.
A total of 828 women’s collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II and II were recognized with the prestigious honor. With a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50, the criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics.
Chael, a junior for the 2015-16 season, is making her first career appearance on the WGCA All-American Scholars Team. Last week, the transfer from Nebraska was named to the Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll. On the course this season, Chael recorded the third-best stroke average on the team and tied for 10th place at the Minnesota Invitational.
Damerau was named to the WGCA All-American Scholars Team for the second time in her career after pulling a double major in communications and psychology. The Cham, Switzerland native has made the SEC Academic Honor Roll in all four seasons at UK. In her final season at Kentucky this past year, she recorded a career-best fourth-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
Johansson was tabbed a WGCA All-American Scholar for the first time in her career. She also picked All-SEC Academic Honor Roll honors for the spring semester as a sophomore. UK’s 2015-16 leader with a 76.0 scoring average posted a team-high six top-50 finishes in tournament play.
As a team, the Wildcats posted a combined 3.678 GPA for the 2015-16 season, including a 3.713 GPA in the spring, the best mark among all teams in UK’s athletic department.
As always, fans can follow the team on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as on the web at UKathletics.com, for the latest Kentucky women’s golf information.
