CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jasmine Quinn ran the No. 3 100-meter hurdles time in the NCAA this year, Wildcats won five events (seven when including UK alumni) and many more Wildcats turned in nationally elite and personal-best performances on Saturday to conclude the Virginia Challenge.
Saturday Winners
Quinn ran 12.83, a new PR, to win the 100m hurdles.
Other UK winners on Saturday included Quinn’s fellow freshman Kianna Gray as well as junior Destiny Carter as the two each ran 23.70 into a slight headwind to win the 200m.
UK’s women’s 4x400m relay won in 3:34.40.
Olivia Gruver, also a freshman, reached a new PR and school-record height to win the pole vault at a clearance of 14’1.25″/4.30m. The mark is tied 10th in the NCAA right now.
Sophomore Nick Anderson ran 13.82 to win the 110m hurdles, completing a short hurdles sweep for the Wildcats.
UK Class of 2015 alum Kenyattia Hackworth won the long jump with a PR 22’3.5″/6.79m (+0.4). The mark ranks No. 3 outdoors in the world this year and is the best by an American in this young season. The mark broke the track and meet records.
UK alum Rondel Sorrillo, the 2010 NCAA 200m Champion, won his signature event in 20.56.
Notable finishes
Destiny Carter and Sha’Keela Saunders jumped 21’4.25″/6.51m to place 3-4 in the invitational long jump, which Hackworth won. Carter’s mark was a PR and moved her into third place on the UK all-time performers’ list. Saunders’ tops that list with a lifetime best of 22’1.75”, which she jumped last season.
Kiah Seymour placed second in the 400m hurdles with a season-best 56.10, which would rank No. 5 in the NCAA at the start of the weekend.
Beckie Famurewa and Adriana Brown placed 2-3 in the discus. Famurewa, who broke the UK hammer throw record on Friday, tossed a season-best 184’3”/56.17m. Adriana Brown threw a two-meter PR 183’2”/55.82m.
Fred Dorsey placed second in the men’s invitational long jump with a leap of 24’10.5”/7.58m.
Justin Kretchmer placed third in the high jump with a clearance that tied his PR at 7’0.25”/2.14m.
Elijah Marta threw a season-best 216’5”/65.97m to claim second place in the javelin.
Tim Duckworth, known mostly as a decathlete, placed second in the pole vault with a four-inch PR clearance at 16’8.75”/5.10m, which made him the UK No. 5 all-time performer.
