Nunley Named SEC Pitcher of the Week for Second-Straight Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky softball senior
pitcher Kelsey Nunley was named the Southeastern Conference’s Pitcher of the
Week for the second consecutive week, it was announced by the league office on
Monday afternoon.

Nunley becomes the first player this season in
the SEC to win Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks, and joins Auburn’s
Kasey Cooper as the only back-to-back award winners all season.

The Soddy Daisy, Tenn., native went 3-0 in the
week, with all three wins coming against top-20 teams in the SEC. Her week
began with a complete-game shutout of No. 8 LSU in Baton Rouge to cap off a
sweep of the No. 8 Tigers on the road for the first time in program history.
That performance was followed by book-ending the weekend with Friday and Sunday
wins over No. 18 Missouri to clinch Kentucky’s fifth SEC series win this
season.

Nunley, who is an ASA/USA Softball National
Player of the Year finalist, as well as a Senior CLASS Award finalist,
currently has a 1.14 ERA with a team-best 17 wins. She has appeared in 25 games
for the Wildcats, recorded 10 complete games and six shutouts in 128.2 innings
pitched. With Monday’s complete-game shutout win over LSU, Nunley overtook the
NCAA lead for career innings pitched by an active pitcher, and now has thrown
over 880 innings of work in her four-year career in the Blue and White.

Nunley and the Wildcats will play four
games again this week, beginning with a road game at Western Kentucky on
Wednesday night in Bowling Green, Ky., at 7 p.m. ET. Following that in-state
affair, the Wildcats will trek south to return to SEC competition to face the
No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Saturday’s game
shown live on the SEC Network. Friday and Sunday’s games will be on the SEC
Network+, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
