UK Rifle Fifth After Smallbore at NCAA Championships
AKRON, Ohio – The Kentucky rifle
team sits in fifth place after scoring 2313 in smallbore at the NCAA
Championships on Friday.
Hanna Carr had the top score for the Wildcats, 582. She placed ninth, just missing
the individual final
“We worked hard today,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “I was proud of the
way the team responded to the obstacles that they faced. I feel moving forward this
group will learn a lot from this experience.”
West Virginia is in first place with 2338 points after smallbore. TCU is second
on 2333, Murray State is third with 2329, Alaska is fourth on 2313.
Sonya May shot 579, Cathryn Papasodora shot 577, Carmen Fry shot 575 and
Heather Kirby shot 570.
Carr, Papasodora and Fry are making their NCAA Championships debuts.
“Going into tomorrow we will have to come out and shoot the way we want too,”
Mullins said. “This is an exciting time for our team and I feel if we can
harness a little more of that we will be happy at the end of tomorrow.”
Air rifle will commence at 10:15 a.m. ET on
Saturday with finals taking place at 2 p.m.
The overall team champion will be determined by combining the smallbore and air
rifle team total scores into an aggregate for each team.
