LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky junior guard Makayla Epps has been named to the 2016 Southeastern Conference All-Tournament Team for her strong performances in the event this week, it was announced Sunday.
The five-member team, which was selected by media in attendance, included Epps, Tennessee guard Diamond DeShields, Mississippi State forward Victoria Vivians, and South Carolina guard Tiffany Mitchell and center A’ja Wilson.
The honor is the second of its kind for Epps, who was also named to the SEC All-Tournament Team last season. The native of Lebanon, Ky., is just the fourth player in program history to be named to the team multiple seasons, joining Valerie Still, Victoria Dunlap and A’dia Mathies.
Kentucky played in three games during the event, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament for the seventh straight year and eighth time in nine seasons under head coach Matthew Mitchell. Epps averaged a team-best 18.3 points per game during the event, adding 5.3 rebounds per game with 12 assists and seven steals. The junior guard was 21-of-38 overall from the field and averaged 32.3 minutes per game.
On the season, Epps has played in 29 games, averaging a team-best 16.5 points per game, hitting .474 from the field, with 4.5 assists per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. Epps has scored 20+ points 10 times this season, while scoring in double digits 26 times. The first-team All-SEC honoree recorded the second triple-double in program history earlier this season with 21 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds against Morehead State.
