Wildcats Clinch 4-0 Decision Over Indiana

LEXINGTON, Ky.-Fresh off moving up to No. 15 in the latest Oracle/ITA Poll, Kentucky women’s tennis handily defeated No. 59 Indiana inside the friendly confines of Boone Tennis Complex on Wednesday morning.  The Wildcats secured a 4-0 clinch victory over the Hoosiers, with the match lasting just over an hour and a half.

“We played an Indiana team that is always very well coached and we put everything on the line,” said head coach Carlos Dradá. “They did a great job of taking care of business. They’re buying into what we’re telling them and teaching them. They are preparing themselves for SEC competition. We’re looking forward to this weekend first with two tough matches. Today was a step in the right direction.”

Kentucky got off to a quick start in doubles, with Nadia Ravita and Justina Mikulskyte blanking Indiana’s Danielle Wolf and Madison Appel, 6-0.  The doubles point was secured not long after, when Mami Adachi and Kate Lanier posted a 6-1 victory over Sarah Baron and Paula Gutierrez to establish an early 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats continued to fly through singles play, with Ravita and Adachi both posting 6-1, 6-2 wins.  Ravita claimed her win in No. 2 singles over Gutierrez to bring the score to 2-0, while Adachi finished her match within a minute of Ravita with a win over Baron in No. 5 singles.

On the No. 1 court, Mikulskyte and Appel were locked in a back-and-forth battle, with Kentucky’s freshman ultimately recording the win and securing the final point for the Blue and White. Mikulskyte, who made the move to No. 1 singles after moving up from the No. 4 spot two weeks ago, posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Indiana’s rookie.
