UK Rifle Falls to No. 12 NC State for First Loss

POINT, N.Y. – The Kentucky rifle team suffered its first loss of the season at
the hands of No. 12 North Carolina State by a score of 4665-4653 on Sunday.
The
Wildcats are now 8-1 and 5-1 in the Great American Rifle Conference.
Kentucky
shot a smallbore score of 2291 and an air rifle score of 2362.
“It’s a disappointing feeling after a loss because we worked hard in training
camp after the break,” Harry Mullins said. “With the skill level we think we’re
at we’re going to have to revisit how we’re going to get those points back. But
hats off to NC State. They’re a very good team, an up and coming team.”
Freshman
Hanna Carr finished as the top individual for the Wildcats with a 578 in smallbore
and 592 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 1170, which gave her a second
place overall finish.
In
the smallbore standings, Jason Scharbel took second place with a score of 580,
while Heather Kirby took second place in air rifle after scoring a 593.
The
Wolfpack had two individuals shoot their best aggregate scores of the season
with a 1185 and 1170.
Kentucky rifle will
next compete at home on Saturday Jan. 30 with a tri-match against No. 2 Murray
State and No. 9 Memphis.
