LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following another impressive performance last weekend, Kentucky freshman Seb Masterton was named Diver of the Week by the Southeastern conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
The accolade marks Masterton’s second SEC Diver of the Week award of his rookie campaign. The Reading, England, product was also named the league’s top diver on Dec. 8, 2015.
Masterton was instrumental in the Wildcats’ first SEC dual victory in seven years. The freshman won all three of his disciplines over LSU, along with two wins over Virginia Tech. In the 1-meter dive, he notched 299.15 points to finish third to the Hokies but win over LSU. From there, Masterson took the overall win in the 1-meter dive with 373.80 points, a score that would stand at fifth in UK’s all-time laurels had Masterton not previously secured the spot. He went on to clinch a tight victory over VT’s Logan Stevens in the platform dive, with a final score of 337.80. His score is a new personal best, and ranks fourth on UK’s all-time platform list.
The Wildcats resume action on Jan. 23, when the team will travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on the rival Cardinals. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
