Morgan Bergren Named to SEC Volleyball Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Southeastern conference office announced its 12th annual volleyball
community service team, with senior setter Morgan Bergren being named one of 13
honorees.

Bergren has been a mainstay in working within
the community as a student-athlete. She has been involved in everything from bell
ringing during the Holidays for the Salvation Army, to volunteering and
visiting children and adults who are suffering at places like the Lexington VA,
UK Children’s Hospital, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center and the Boys and
Girls club. As a member of the SAAC, Bergren has volunteered for God’s Pantry’s
local backpack program. She helped coordinate the UK Children’s Hospital
blanket project, volunteered at the local YMCA and been involved with Read
Across America. Bergren has impacted campus life volunteering with the UK
move-in event in which she helps incoming students move into their dorms, as
well as the back-to-school picnic. She has also spent several years working
with the Gear Up program, through which she has mentored two middle school
children from eastern Kentucky via Skype.

Bergren also joined a group of UK
student-athletes and staff members for a 10-day trip to Ethiopia. The Kentucky
contingent serves the people of Ethiopia for several days provide clothing,
working with them in their daily projects and playing sports and games with
them

She is finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and
was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team earlier last month.

The other honorees include: Natalie Murison (Alabama), Breana Jones (Arkansas), Stephanie Campbell (Auburn), Shaniah Joseph (Florida), Elle McCord (Georgia), Katie Lindelow (LSU), Aubrey Edie (Ole Miss), Ellen Stuart (Mississippi State), Regan Peltier (Missouri), Sarah Blomgren (South Carolina), Megan Hatcher (Tennessee) and Angela Lowak (Texas A&M).

The All-SEC setter and the rest of the
Wildcats will resume play on Friday, Dec. 4, where the team is slated to face
the Patriot League champion American Eagles in Columbus, Ohio, in the first
round of the NCAA tournament. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. The victor of
Friday’s match will face either Ohio State or Robert Morris in the round of 32.
Kentucky makes its 11th-consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament with an open
bid following a 21-9 mark in the regular season and a 14-4 SEC record, good for
a third place finish in the league.

Premier Sports Management announced its 10 finalists for the annual Senior CLASS Award on Friday, Oct. 30, with standout setter Morgan Bergren being one of the remaining candidates for the honor.  Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through Dec. 7. Fans can vote once a day until the Dec. 7 cut off.  

 

Kentucky’s
Memorial Coliseum will play host to the NCAA Regionals Dec. 11-12. UK is one of
four sites selected for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matchups with one team
advancing to the Final Four in Omaha, Neb., from the Lexington Region. This
marks the third time in five seasons Memorial
Coliseum will host this premier volleyball event.
