Cats Fall to Georgia in Athens
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia football team scored 14 points in the third quarter to open up a 21-point lead and roll to a 27-3 victory over Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Sanford Stadium.
The loss was the fourth straight for the Wildcats, who return to action next week at Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. Kentucky sits 4-5 overall this season and 2-5 in SEC play.
Georgia (6-3, 4-3 SEC) started the scoring, getting a 28-yard touchdown rush by Terry Godwin with 8:57 to play in the first quarter to put the Bulldogs up 7-0.
The two teams traded field goals the reminder of the first half with Marshall Morgan hitting from 22 yards and UK’s Austin MacGinnis hitting from 32 yards to cut the UGA halftime lead to 10-3.
Georgia took control of the game in the third quarter. Kentucky received the opening kickoff of the second half and elected to go for it on fourth-and-short near midfield, but could not covert. The Bulldogs took advantage of the open field, marching 52 yards down the field with Sony Michel’s one-yard scoring rush giving UGA a 17-3 lead.
The Bulldogs added to that lead late in the third quarter when Keith Marshall scored on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Greyson Lambert to put UGA up 24-3. Georgia added a 27-yard field goal by Morgan in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the 27-3 victory.
The Wildcat offense struggled to find momentum in the game with quarterback Patrick Towles going 8-for-21 for 96 yards and two interceptions. Redshirt freshman quarterback Drew Barker replaced Towles in the fourth quarter and went 1-for-2 with a five-yard pass.
Junior running back Jojo Kemp paced the UK ground game with 12 carries for 48 yards, while sophomore Mikel Horton had nine carries for 35 yards and freshman Sihiem King had two carries for four yards. Sophomore wide receiver Garrett Johnson had three receptions for 49 yards, including a 27-yard grab, while sophomore Dorian Baker had three receptions for 31 yards and Jeff Badet had one catch for 16 yards.
Senior linebacker Josh Forrest had 10 tackles in the game with one tackle-for-loss, while safety Marcus McWilson had nine tackles and senior safety A.J. Stamps had a team-best 11 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup.
