UK Women’s Soccer Welcomes Missouri, Arkansas to The Bell

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will look to pick up six more points this weekend as Southeastern Conference play picks up, with the Wildcats playing host Missouri on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET and Arkansas on Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET.
Both matches will be shown live on the SEC Network+, WatchESPN and ESPN3 with Neil Price and J.D. Stephenson on the call.
Kentucky sits tied for first in the SEC after the first two rounds of league action for the first time under Jon Lipsitz with a perfect six points out of six. UK had been tied for first in 2012 after one weekend, but dropped after the second weekend to third place.
Kentucky went 2-0-0 last weekend to move to 8-1-1 overall on the season. The Wildcats got a 1-0 win on the road at Alabama on Friday before turning around to beat Butler on Sunday in the weekend capper, 4-1.
Sophomore Katy Keen scored the game-winning goal on Friday night on a corner kick re-fire from Kaitlin Miller, poking home the winner with the outside of her right foot past the keeper for her second game-winning goal of the season.
UK finished the non-conference slate of matches 6-1-1, with many quality wins over teams ranked in the top 50 of the current RPI. UK notched wins over Washington, Butler, Ohio, UNC Greensboro and Louisville.
This weekend’s matchup marks the seventh all-time meeting between the Tigers and Wildcats. Kentucky has not beaten Missouri since the Tigers joined the SEC in 2012. All four matches have been 2-1 decisions, with MU coming out victorious in all four of them.
Missouri enters the weekend with a 3-3-3 record this season with wins over Auburn, Purdue and TCU. The Tigers have picked up results in their matches with SMU, Oregon State and Northwestern, with two of those three results coming as 0-0 decisions. The Tigers have won just one of their last five matches after starting the season 2-1-1. Savannah Trujillo leads the Missouri offense with two goals on the season, and four points. MU has scored eight goals this season while only allowing five.
Under the direction of Colby Hale, Arkansas is 4-5-0 this season, and has yet to pick up a point in SEC play, sitting at 0-2-0 in the league. The Hogs are coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Mississippi State on Sunday, where they allowed the go-ahead goal in the final three minutes of the match. Arkansas is without USWNT player Ashleigh Ellenwood, who tore her ACL earlier in the non-conference season.
This weekend’s matchup marks the 20th all-time meeting between Arkansas and Kentucky, with UK leading 11-7-1 entering the weekend. Arkansas has won four of the last five meetings, with UK’s last win against the Hogs coming in a 2-1 overtime decision in 2011 thanks to Kelsey Hunyadi’s PK in the first overtime.
