10. January 29, 1966 vs Auburn
Dampier scored
32 points in Kentucky’s victory over Auburn, 115-78. It was Dampier’s first
30-point game in SEC play, going 11 of 19 in field goal shooting and 10 of 13
from the free-throw line.
9. December 22, 1966 vs Oregon State in the UKIT
In a 96-66
win over Oregon State in the UKIT, Dampier scored 30 points on 8-of-12 shooting
and 14 of 14 from the free-throw line. His perfection from the charity stripe remains
tied for first in single-game free throw shooting in UK history (Jodie Meeks
and Ramel Bradley).
8. December 12, 1964 vs Syracuse
Dampier had back-to-back
30-point games in just his third and fourth varsity games as he scored 31 in a 110-77 win
over Syracuse. That season, the Orange roster featured future NBA star Dave
Bing who contributed 20 that night against Kentucky and included a reserve named
Jim Boeheim
7. December 9, 1964 vs Iowa
In a 100-74
victory over Iowa, Dampier scored 37 points in just his third game as a varsity
player. He was 17 of 29 in field goals and added nine rebounds.
6. December 5, 1966 vs Illinois
Dampier
scored 40 points on 17-of-26 shooting to lead the Wildcats past Illinois 98-97 in
overtime at Memorial Coliseum. This is tied for the fourth-highest scoring game by
a Cat in Memorial Coliseum
5. December 18, 1965 vs Indiana
Kentucky
faced Indiana, Dampier’s home state, for first time in 21 years and Dampier
didn’t disappoint. He scored 28 points to lead the Wildcats to a 91-56 win in
the UKIT
4. February 26, 1966 vs Tennessee
Dampier
scored 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead UK past Tennessee at Memorial Coliseum
and to a 23-0 record.
3. March 18, 1966 vs Duke, Final Four in Cole Fieldhouse
Dampier
scored 23 points to lead UK past Duke, 83-79, and into the national title game
at Cole Fieldhouse. The next day, Kentucky fell to Texas Western in the
Championship game.
2. March 11, 1966 vs Dayton, Mideast Regional Semifinal in Iowa Fieldhouse
Dampier
dropped 34 points vs on 14-of-23 shooting. At the time, it set a new school
record for most points by a Wildcats in an NCAA Tournament game
1. February 2, 1966 vs Vanderbilt
Dampier
scored 42 points in Kentucky’s 105-90 win at Vanderbilt, shooting 18 for 29,
going a perfect 6 for 6 from the free-throw line, and adding nine rebounds to
his performance. He is still one of only three Kentucky players to score 40 or
more points on opponent’s home court joining Dan Issel (51 points at LSU on
February, 21, 2970) and Jodie Meeks (54 points at Tennessee on January 13, 2009)
