Snyder Tied for Second After Opening 18 Holes

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior David Snyder carded a season-low round of 5-under par, 66, on the opening day of the NCAA Lubbock Regional and is tied for second following the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event.
Snyder was spectacular in his debut round with a season-low score. The 66 is just one shot off of his career-low round of 65 he set as a sophomore. The junior from Somerset, Ky., began his round on the No. 1 hole and fired a 2-under, 33, on the front nine. The opening nine holes consisted of four birdies including three of the final five holes.
He began the back nine by going 3-under through the opening seven holes before a bogey on No. 17. Snyder came back strong, however, as he rallied to birdie No. 18 – his eighth birdie of the day for the 5-under total score. Snyder posted a 3-under, 33, on the back nine.
Snyder and freshman Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel are competing for a spot in the NCAA Championship as an individual representative. The low individual not a part of one of the teams in the Lubbock Regional will advance to the Championships May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
Currently, Snyder is tied with Texas-Pan American’s Nicolas Platret for the top individual spot. Platret also fired an opening round 66.
McDaniel fired a 2-over par, 73, in his first NCAA competition. The Manchester, Ky., native is currently tied for 56th overall and ninth among individual players.
UK’s dynamic freshman began his round with a birdie on the opening hole. He then bogeyed the next two before rallying for birdies on No. 4 and No. 6. He shot 2-over par through the first nine holes, before paring every hole on the back nine to complete a solid opening round.
Competition at The Rawls Course resumes on Friday with another par-71 day playing at 7,349 yards. Both Wildcats will open their rounds off the No. 10 hole on Friday.Texas Tech Alumnus Jerry S. Rawls made it possible for the University to have its own territory by donating $8.6 million toward the total cost of approximately $14-15 million in 2001 and the course was then named for him.
Completed in September 2003, the 270-acre parcel, located at the northernmost point of the campus proper, features an 18-hole championship-level course with a 60-acre driving range as well as pitching and chipping areas. The 7,100-yard golf course has very undulating fairways, beautiful bent grass greens and many deep bunkers.
Dedicated facilities for both golf teams existing, including collegiate-exclusive pitching and chipping areas and an indoor facility with three hitting bays, one each for the men and the women, both featuring the best video technology possible.
