BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky freshman golfer Cooper Musselman was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday. The honor is the first of Musselman’s career and the second such honor of the season for the Kentucky men’s golf team.

Musselman led the Wildcats to their best finish of the season with a third-place showing at the Gary Koch Invitational this week. Musselman placed third overall on the individual leaderboard, his best career finish. His previous best finish was 14th place during UK’s first tournament of the 2014-15 season.

Musselman charted two rounds of under par, including a spring low of 68 in the second round. His third place finish was the third top-five finish of the year for the Wildcats. His tournament score of 6-under par, 210, was a career low for the Louisville, Ky., native.

The honor is the second of the season for the men’s golf program. Fellow freshman Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel was also named SEC Freshman of the Week on March 25, following a 12th place finish at the Schenkel Invitational.

The Gary Koch Invitational wrapped up regular season competition for the Wildcats. UK will return to the links at the SEC Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga., April 17-19.
